On a plane bound for Viet Nam (my first duty station after basic training), I wrote to a number of stars¹ and told them my sad story (might not come back, blah, blah, blah) and asked each of
them for an autograph. Those that responded send not just an autograph, but an autographed picture.
Lucy was one.
1. I got each of their home addresses by taking one of those "Tour the Stars' Homes" on my final time off before leaving the states. As the bus went my each one, the driver
would point to a house and announce who lived there and I would write down the street and number.
